Valorant mobile was first announced over a year ago as Riot Games celebrated a successful first year of the game with a string of announcements about its overall player base and interest in continuing support of the title. Riot producer Anna Donlon said at the time:
“To see our growing player community recognize and appreciate what we’re trying to do with Valorant is beyond what we could’ve expected and we’re thrilled to soon offer the same competitive Valorant experience to even more global players.”
Notably, Donlon also said at the time that a console version of the game was potentially still in the works, though the development team had felt that mobile was a better fit for Valorant.
When Valorant Mobile is Coming Out
Since that announcement, however, there’s actually been precious few details released ever since about when the mobile port is due to launch. There is no official information regarding a release date as yet, so we simply don’t know when Valorant is coming out. That being said, Riot has previously stated that it should have something to showcase in “year two” of the game, which would mean there should be more details this year in 2022.
Valorant Mobile Leaked Gameplay & Screenshots
Unofficially, there’s already substantial evidence we have that Valorant mobile is definitely still in development and progressing quickly. Last year, a host of leaked screenshots from an alpha/beta test held in China. The images were originally shared by @DannyINTEL on Twitter, with images showcasing the game running on a mobile device, giving us our first look at the control layout. Earlier this year, we got our first look at Valorant mobile gameplay in action as, once again, DannyINTEL provided leaked footage: From what we’re seeing so far, it certainly looks as though the game’s development is a fair way down the line. It seems to be pretty polished for a beta, though eagle-eyed observers will note that it’s an older version of Valorant than what is currently on PC. Jett has more smokes than she does now, for example, and the layout of the maps is different in some cases.
How to Sign Up For Valorant Mobile Beta
While the mobile beta is available in China, it’s not something you can play right now in any other region. Earlier this year, dataminer ValorLeaks found information that suggests a future beta will use an invite system when he Tweeted: “At the moment, it seems it will be using an invite system for players to invite friends to gain access to the beta.” As for when that might occur, ValorLeaks noted that it’s still likely “MONTHS” away. That was back in June, and there’s still no word from Riot Games. Don’t count on an announcement in the near future.
Will Valorant Mobile Be Crossplay With PC?
Of course, the big question is how a tactical shooter such as Valorant, which puts a huge emphasis on recoil control and precision shooting, could possibly work on a touch screen. Similar games, like Counter-Strike, have failed to work on console gamepads in years gone by, let alone a touch screen. Presumably, there will be some sort of aim assist. And fear not, it has already been confirmed there isn’t crossplay between PC and mobile. For now, that’s everything there is to know about when Valorant mobile comes out. Expect Twinfinite to keep you informed as and when we hear more.
